Ken Lager
JANEEN PERETIN, Lakemont
Drive, was selected as the
Technology Administrator of
the Year by the Pennsylvania
Education Technology Expo
and Conference. Peretin is the
director of communication,
innovation and advancement in
the Baldwin-Whitehall School
District. The Pennsylvania Education
Technology Expo
and Conference’s goal is to
bring together like-minded
technology administrators and
educators from across the state
to learn from leading experts in
the education and technology
fields. Peretin was instrumental in Baldwin-Whitehall’s acceptance into the Digital
Promise’s League of Innovative Schools. During the pandemic, Peretin helped
the district excel as it reimagined learning and shifted to online and hybrid
instruction, staff said.
Peretin is known in the district for putting students first. “She’s the type of
leader who never seeks the attention associated with the levels of success that
she has not only achieved for herself, but more importantly, for the colleagues,
students, and families whom she serves,” Baldwin High School Principal Shaun
Tomaszewski said.
Peretin has big goals for the future of technology in Baldwin-Whitehall.
“I think we are at an inflection point in education and I’m excited for what the
future might be,” she said.

THE NEXT GENERATION It’s all in the family at Allegheny
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery on Mt. Lebanon Boulevard.
This summer, Dr. Scott Hall Godwin joined his uncle, Dr.
William James Hall, in the practice—marking four generations
of Halls serving the area.
“My mom was a nurse and being so close with my uncle
and grandfather, it just felt like a good fit,” Dr. Godwin said.
Dr. Dewitt Hall was the first oral surgeon in the family—
in fact, he was the first exodontist in Pittsburgh, where he
started the practice in 1918. His first practice was based
in Jenkins Arcade, back in the days when everyone would
head downtown to see the doctor.
His sons, William E., Robert and James, along with their
cousin Richard, all followed in his footsteps. “At one time,
there were five Halls practicing oral surgery downtown,”
Dr. William James Hall said. “They outgrew themselves, so
my father, in about 1945, opened a satellite office in Mt.
Lebanon.”
