MT. LEBANON HONORS
GREAT ALUMNI
A career Coast Guard chief, an investment
management CEO, a Marine fighter pilot who
served in two wars and the co-owner of one
of Mt. Lebanon’s oldest and best-loved busi-
nesses. Those are this year’s Mt. Lebanon High
School Great Alumni.
Great Alumni are selected by a student council
committee and recognize Mt. Lebanon grads
who have gone on to excel in their professions,
have demonstrated a strong commitment to
public service or have significantly improved
the lives of others.
The awardees were honored at a luncheon on
September 27, and at the homecoming foot-
ball game that night.
This year’s Great Alumni are:
CHIEF PETTY OFFICER CRAIG DREW,
CLASS OF 1998
Craig Drew enlisted in the Coast Guard in
2000 after three semesters at Indiana Univer-
sity of Pennsylvania. In his almost 20 years of
service, Drew has participated in a number of
at-sea rescues, including evacuating victims of
Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in 2005. He
is a chief aviation maintenance technician at a
Coast Guard base in Massachusetts, responsi-
ble for operations, training and administration.
Drew was nominated for this award by Brian
Drew, his brother, who is a Class of 1994 alumni.
THOMAS MICHAEL FINKE, CLASS OF 1982
Thomas Finke was a member of the 1980
WPIAL AAAA championship football team.
He is the Chairman and CEO of Barings, a
billion-dollar global investment management
firm. His 28-year financial career includes

agement industries with First Union Capi-
tal Markets and Mellon Bank. He has made
philanthropic contributions to the Charlotte
Ballet, Opera Carolina, Habitat for Humanity,
Teach for America, and the Charlotte Hor-
nets’ Excellence in Education program.
as a project manager for Aerojet General Cor-
poration. One of the projects he worked on
was the Polaris Missile program.
Finke was nominated for this award by his
wife, Heather Sutherland Finke, Class of 1983,
and his cousins Tom Joyce, Mike Joyce and
Keary McFeeley, Class of 1991.
DOUGLAS SATTERFIELD, CLASS OF 1971
HAROLD A. LANGSTAFF
CLASS OF 1939
(DECEASED), Harold Langstaff was a star athlete and schol-
ar at Mt. Lebanon High School before attend-
ing the University of Michigan, where he was
a member of the football team. He attended
college for two years before being called into
military service and served as a Marine fighter
pilot in World War II and the Korean War, re-
ceiving a Distinguished Flying Cross and eight
Air Medals. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel
and began a career in the aerospace industry
Langstaff was nominated for this award by
Harold H. Wilson, a 2009 Great Alumni and
Mt. Lebanon High School Class of 1947 alumni.
Satterfield owns Rollier’s Hardware, a 65-year-
old Mt. Lebanon institution. He worked along-
side his father at the Shadyside Rollier’s store
and then at the Mt. Lebanon McFarland Road
location. He has welcomed his sons, a third
generation, into the hardware business. He
helped rebuild Foster School’s playground,
supported the Center for Theatre Arts and his
hand-thrown pottery has been auctioned at
the Pittsburgh Empty Bowls fundraisers.
Satterfield was nominated for this award
by his friends Michael Blehar and Dann
