homas Doyle, Kenilworth Drive, has been named
Emergency Physician of the Year by the Pennsylvania
Emergency Health Services Council. Dr. Doyle, a board-
certified emergency medicine physician with the University
of Pittsburgh Medical Center, also serves as the associate medical
director for the STAT MedEvac Air Medical Program. He is a 1997
graduate of Hahnemann University School of Medicine and com-
pleted his Emergency Medicine Residency in 2000 at the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. arlier this year.
M arjie Wilson got a call from a woman in her 80s who needed help. The
woman, widowed for some time, had lived in her house for nearly 30 years
and was all set to burn the mortgage when she received a letter from her mort-
gage company telling her she owes for another year.
After trying in vain to penetrate the mortgage company’s dense voicemail
forest, the woman was almost ready to give up and give them 31 years worth
of money for a 30-year contract, when she called Asbury Heights Senior
Information and Referral Service (SIRS). Wilson took the
woman’s information, then went to work on her behalf,
beginning by completely bypassing the infuriating cus-
tomer service voicemail system and getting in direct
touch with the president of the company. Eventually, it
turned out that the company had made a mistake and
the woman’s mortgage got the retirement it deserved.
Wilson has made her way through any number of
bureaucratic mazes in the seven years since she has
been the voice on the other end of the SIRS hotline. In
2001 Wilson, who had been Asbury’s director of social
services, took some time off for maternity leave and
then wanted to spend more time with her young family.
