COMMUNITY RESPONDS TO CALL Donations have been healthy for the Mt. Lebanon Veterans Memorial, planned for Morgan Drive in Mt. Lebanon Park. For- mer Mt. Lebanon Commissioner Dan Gi- gler, chair of fund-raising, reports that so far about $56,000 of the estimated $180,000 cost of the project has been raised through last fall’s Brewfest, online donations at www. mtlebanon.org and in response to appeals from the volunteer committee of about 30 residents. Currently the elementary schools are conducting a “Bucks for Building” campaign to raise money, and other events are scheduled for this spring, including The Event, a cocktail party with celebrity guests, entertainment and a live auction at Andora Restaurant, Thursday, March 10 from 6 to 8:30 (Tickets are $150; call 412-343- 3407). Donations to the memorial may be made in honor of someone. Contributors of $1,000 or more will be recognized at the memorial site. “We are thrilled at the community re- sponse,” says Public Information Officer Susan Morgans, staff liaison to the proj- ect. “A major donor campaign is under way, but any amount—$5, $10, whatever people can afford—is welcome and will help us reach our goal.” Also, residents can donate earned income tax overpayments to the memorial by just checking a box on the form from the tax office. Architects have begun developing con- struction specs, and the committee hopes to have the project under way by the year’s end. Recent donors include: Wilmer K. and Norma S.
